Mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively, and can make a contribution to his or her community.
According to WHO the mental health is more than just an absence of mental disorder and abnormality. It is being observed that mental health on an individual is more crucial than different communities and societies all over the world. In the United States, the National Alliance on Mental Illness estimates that almost 1 in 5 adults experience mental health problems each year.
In 2017, an estimated 11.2 million adults in the U.S, or about 4.5% of adults, had a severe psychological condition, according to the National Institute of Mental Health.
Common Mental Health disorders:
The most important types of mental illness include
1.Anxiety disorders
2. Mood disorders
3. Schizophrenia disorders
Anxiety disorder: The anxiety disorder include GAD ( Generalized anxiety disorder)
symptoms include fatigue and restlessness. Anxiety disorders also include phobias, panic disorders, PTSD ( post-traumatic stress disorder) PTSD can occur after a person experiences or witnesses a deeply stressful or traumatic event.
and OSD ( obsession stress disorder)People with OCD have obsessions and compulsions. In other words, they experience constant, stressful thoughts and a powerful urge to perform repetitive acts, such as hand washing.
Mood Disorder: Examples of mood disorders include major depression, bipolar disorder means there is an unusual change in the moods who is being suffered from this disorder. And in last SAD ( seasonal affective disorder ) the person suffering from this have seasonal changes in his/her.
Schizophrenia Disorders:
Signs of schizophrenia typically develop between 16 to 30 years according to the NIMH. The individual will have thoughts that appear fragmented, and they may also find it hard to process information.
Schizophrenia has negative and positive symptoms. Positive symptoms include delusions, thought disorders, and hallucinations. Negative symptoms include withdrawal, lack of motivation, and a flat or inappropriate mood.
Treatment: There are various methods for treating mental illness. A method suitable for one is not suitable for another person. The treatment includes:
Psychotherapy :
This type of treatment takes a psychological approach to treating mental illness, exposure therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy are examples.
Psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, and some primary care physicians carry out this type of treatment.
Medications:
Some people take prescribed medications, such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anxiolytic drugs.
Mental illness can be cured by making some changes in your life by reducing your intake of alcohol and by eating a balanced diet.
Significance:
There are reasons why mental health is important:
1. Mental health affects physical health: If a person is suffering from any kind of disease you can not blame anyone for this. Mental health is also a disease that can take someone's life. Depression can lead to suicidal attempts. Mental illness affects our immune system.
2. End stigma: We all should be aware of mental illness and its very important topic to talk about. Stigma begets shame. Shame begets destructive behaviors. The stigma spread when we do not talk about mental health. When we talk to each other, the problem becomes more smaller withhold to our lives. We can pay attention and can make the world a more peaceful place for us.
